Certification and standards of green buildings

Certification and standards for green buildings have been developed to identify buildings that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. These certifications and standards cover many different aspects, from the design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings.

One of the most widely used green building certifications is the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification developed in the United States. LEED evaluates the sustainability of buildings using a specific scoring system to minimize the environmental impact of buildings. This scoring system is evaluated according to factors such as the energy efficiency of buildings, water savings, material selection and indoor air quality.

Another green building certification, BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), was developed in England. BREEAM evaluates buildings in categories such as energy, water, materials and waste management, health and well-being, transportation, ecology and management.

Other green building certifications are also available, such as Green Globes, Green Star, and Living Building Challenge. These certifications are designed to encourage buildings to be environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Green building standards are guidelines developed to ensure that buildings are environmentally friendly and sustainable. These standards define best practices that can be used during the design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings. These standards include ASHRAE 189.1 in the USA and the Green Building Standards of the International Green Building Council (IGBC).
