"Green Building Material" generally refers to environmentally friendly and energy efficient building materials produced using natural or renewable resources. Examples might include natural stone, wood, bamboo or recycled materials. These materials can not only reduce the environmental impact of buildings, but also increase energy efficiency and indoor quality.

Documentation used for Green Building Materials includes certification programs such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) or PASSIVHAUS. These programs assess the environmental impact of buildings such as energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, indoor quality and use of natural resources. In addition, the documents used on the basis of materials may include forest management certificates such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
